1. Purpose and scope
This Policy explains how you may refer to Frameleaf and use its branding without misleading people about the source, sponsorship or support of a product or service. It applies to the Frameleaf name, Frameleaf logos and product branding used by Frameleaf, Inc., including Frameleaf Library and Frameleaf Cloud (the Frameleaf Marks). Frameleaf, Inc. administers permissions under this Policy.
This Policy does not claim ownership of third-party marks or exclusive rights in ordinary descriptive words apart from rights recognized by applicable law. It does not represent that any particular mark is registered in any jurisdiction. Separate written brand or partnership agreements govern the uses they expressly authorize.
2. Truthful references and independent commentary
You may use Frameleaf product names in plain text to identify or discuss the actual products, explain compatibility or interoperability, provide instructions, or describe your experience. No advance permission is required under this Policy for truthful references such as “compatible with Frameleaf Library,” “a migration tool for Frameleaf Library,” or “independent support for Frameleaf Library,” when the overall presentation clearly identifies your own product or business and does not imply an official relationship.
News reporting, reviews, criticism, comparison, education, parody and other uses permitted by applicable law do not require Frameleaf’s approval. This Policy does not require favorable coverage or give Frameleaf editorial control. Screenshots of the actual interface may identify the product being discussed; do not present altered screenshots as authentic or expose another person’s private information. Rights in photographs or other content appearing in a screenshot remain with their respective owners.
Use only the branding reasonably needed to identify the subject. When describing your own offering, make your own name and role clear. If the context could suggest affiliation, use a prominent explanation such as: “An independent service; not affiliated with or endorsed by Frameleaf, Inc.” A disclaimer does not cure an otherwise misleading name or presentation.
3. Logos, artwork and written permission
Except for uses permitted by applicable law or expressly allowed in this Policy, obtain written permission before using a Frameleaf logo, app icon or other brand artwork in your own product identity, advertising, merchandise, certification badge, event branding or partnership promotion. Downloading an asset or receiving access to a repository does not by itself grant that permission. An official asset package may contain an express license; follow its stated scope and conditions.
Where we authorize a logo use, use the supplied artwork and any accompanying instructions. Keep its proportions, legibility and identifying elements intact. Do not combine it with another mark, redraw it, animate it or change its colors unless the applicable permission allows that treatment. These conditions govern the permission we grant; they do not restrict independent uses protected by law.
Send permission requests to [email protected], with “Trademark permission” in the subject. Include your identity, the mark or asset, a sample of the proposed presentation, where it will appear, its intended audience and duration, and any commercial or distribution context. Permission is limited to the approved use and does not establish a broader partnership, endorsement or right to sublicense. Silence is not permission.
4. Self-hosting, redistribution and modified software
You may retain the branding displayed by an authentic, unmodified Frameleaf Library release when running it on infrastructure you control. That display does not imply that Frameleaf operates your server, provides your hosting or has access to your media. Identify the independent operator when offering access or support to others.
Frameleaf also permits accurate use of its name to identify an unmodified release you redistribute in compliance with its software license, provided you identify yourself as the distributor and do not imply that Frameleaf supplied, endorsed or supports your distribution. Do not label a modified release as an unmodified official release.
Use distinct product branding for a modified distribution or independently branded service, except where a separate written permission or applicable law allows otherwise. You may truthfully explain that it is “based on Frameleaf Library” and identify the changes and their author. Do not present Frameleaf’s name or logo as the source of your modifications. This does not require removing historical references, copyright notices, license texts, source identifiers or other legally required attribution.
Frameleaf Library’s GNU Affero General Public License, version 3, and applicable third-party licenses govern the code. This Policy does not add a condition to those licenses, prohibit competing services, require a Cloud subscription, or revoke rights to use, study, modify or distribute covered software. Trademark permission and software-license rights are separate. The Open-Source, Attribution and Trademark Notice explains the project’s origin, source obligations and third-party notices.
5. Confusing names and false affiliation
Do not use the Frameleaf Marks in a way that falsely suggests official status, sponsorship, certification, partnership or support. In particular, do not:
- Present your application, fork, hosting service, support business or merchandise as an official Frameleaf offering without authorization.
- Adopt a confusing product or business name, domain name, app-store listing, social-media handle or account identity that impersonates Frameleaf or conceals the actual operator.
- Use Frameleaf branding for deceptive sign-in pages, payment requests, support messages or communications seeking passwords, recovery keys or other private information.
- Claim that Frameleaf has approved, certified or tested an integration, security property or compatibility result without a basis for that claim and any required permission.
- Use a third party’s mark as if Frameleaf owned it or could authorize its use.
These restrictions address misleading use and unauthorized branding. They do not prohibit clearly independent references, lawful comparative advertising, commentary or other uses protected by applicable law.
6. Attribution and trademark symbols
Use the spelling “Frameleaf” and the product names “Frameleaf Library” and “Frameleaf Cloud” when referring to those products. Do not describe a third-party offering as a Frameleaf product merely because it connects to the Cloud API or uses Library source code.
Where a trademark attribution is appropriate, you may use: “Frameleaf and the Frameleaf logo are trademarks of Frameleaf, Inc. Other names and marks belong to their respective owners.” This statement does not assert registration. Ordinary prose references do not need a trademark symbol on every occurrence. Do not add the registered-trademark symbol (®) unless the relevant registration and use are confirmed; follow any symbol instructions supplied with an expressly authorized asset.
7. Immich and other third-party marks
Frameleaf Library is based on Immich and is independently maintained. IMMICH and its associated logos remain the marks of their respective owners. Frameleaf, Inc., Frameleaf Canada Inc. and Frameleaf products are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by or officially associated with FUTO or the Immich project.
This Policy grants no permission to use Immich, FUTO or any other third party’s marks. Preserve applicable copyright and license notices, and distinguish factual attribution from branding or endorsement. Frameleaf’s official product and marketing branding does not use the IMMICH logo.
8. Questions, reports and changes
To report confusing or unauthorized use, contact [email protected] with “Trademark report” in the subject. Identify the relevant mark, the location of the use, why it may mislead people, your authority to report it and a way to contact you. Include only evidence reasonably needed to assess the report. A report does not establish infringement by itself. We may seek clarification, request a correction or take other action appropriate to the circumstances and applicable law.
If a use relying on permission granted by this Policy does not meet its conditions, we may require correction or cessation of that use. Where reasonably practicable, we will explain the concern and allow a reasonable opportunity to correct it; urgent impersonation or fraud may require immediate action. This does not revoke an open-source license or restrict a use independently permitted by law.
We may update this Policy prospectively. An update does not retroactively withdraw permission for a completed use that complied with the Policy when made. Separate written permissions remain subject to their own terms. Nothing here limits mandatory rights under applicable law.
