iPhone Duo and wide windows

Frameleaf makes the most of iPhone Duo. It fits itself to the outer display, the inner display and the fold, so your photos always look their best however you hold the phone. Wide windows on iPad get the same roomier layouts.

The Duo layouts are part of the iPhone and iPad app. Install Frameleaf from the App Store and follow iPhone and iPad to connect your server and set up backup.

On the outer display, you get the familiar iPhone tab bar and photo grid. Open in New Window lives in wider windows, so you won’t see it here.

On the inner display, open the sidebar from its toggle. On iPad, a wide window opens with the sidebar already showing. Make the Library window wide enough and the photo appears right beside the grid; narrow or rotate it and you’re back to one at a time. Either way, the app keeps your place in the grid.

  • Book pose: the grid leaves room between columns for the fold. Compare puts one item on each side, and the grid/photo divider follows the fold.
  • Propped pose: the viewer and editor put the photo above the fold and controls below it.
  • Frame: the photo stays above the fold while its controls sit below.

These layouts follow the fold position your device reports. They use the same library and backup you already have, so there’s nothing extra to set up.

Keep two parts of your library open side by side:

  1. In a regular-width window, open the menu on an album, person or memory.
  2. Choose Open in New Window.

Each window keeps its own navigation and open photo.

App Lock covers every window when the whole app leaves the foreground. Send one window away while you keep using another, and the active one stays open. Account sheets and incoming links open in a single window, not in all of them.

Select photos and drag them onto an album in another Frameleaf window to add them. The other window refreshes that album straight away. Drag a photo to another app to share its original file.

Drop photos from Files or another app into Frameleaf to upload them to the selected server. Drop them onto an album to upload them and add them there in one step. Progress and any failures show in the usual backup screens.

For privacy, a drag started before a lock, sign-out or server switch stops exporting that library’s photos.

Frame turns any album, person or memory into a living photo frame:

  1. Open an album, person or memory page.
  2. Choose Frame. It shuffles the selection and changes photos every ten seconds.
  3. Tap to show controls. Pause or leave when you’re done.

While the device is charging, the screen stays awake. On battery, normal auto-lock applies. Leaving the app pauses playback, and changing account or server closes Frame. When App Lock kicks in, it covers the slideshow too, so your photos stay private.

  • Open in New Window needs a regular-width window.
  • Photo beside the grid needs a Library window wide enough to fit both.
  • Fold-aware layouts appear when the device reports its pose. If it doesn’t, you get the normal iPhone layout.
