Studio overview
Studio is Frameleaf’s multitrack video editor. It runs in the web app, works from the photos and videos already in your library, and renders on your own server or another computer at home. Your originals are never changed.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- A computer with a desktop browser. Full editing is designed for desktop browsers. The Frameleaf apps can open projects for review; see Android.
- A GPU on your server, or a render worker on your network. Without one, Studio shows “Studio is not available on this server”. Browsing your library and quick edits never need one. See Workers and where jobs run.
- WebGPU in your browser for the editor’s full picture. Without it, the editor’s own preview leaves out GPU effects, and the server preview shows the full picture instead.
Open Studio
Section titled “Open Studio”- Open in Studio from the quick editor, the photo viewer or Activity. Your quick edit, undo history and playhead come with you.
- Make a movie from a memory or an album.
- Select photos and videos in your library, then choose Open in Studio. Up to 200 items go in, in the order you picked them.
- Open Studio in the sidebar to see your Studio projects.
Basic and Advanced
Section titled “Basic and Advanced”Studio has two modes. Basic keeps the essentials in view. Advanced adds scopes, colour wheels, transform and keyframe controls, and more film-grain options. Switch at any time.
Your projects
Section titled “Your projects”The project library has three shelves: Projects, Archive and Trash. Search, and sort by recently opened, recently changed or name.
- New, Open, Rename and Duplicate a project.
- Archive a finished project. Archived projects are read-only and hidden from reviewers. Bring one back at any time.
- Move to trash. Projects in the trash are deleted after 30 days. The photos and videos a project uses are never touched.
Saving and history
Section titled “Saving and history”Studio saves as you work and shows All changes saved or Saving…. Every save is a full version of the project. History lists the versions with how much changed. Restoring an older version adds it as a new version, so nothing is lost.
If you lose your connection, your changes are kept and saved when it returns. Opening a project needs a connection.
One editor at a time
Section titled “One editor at a time”Only one window can edit a project at once. If you open it somewhere else, that window switches to Review only, with Edit here instead to take over. If the project changed while you were away, choose Load the latest version or Save my changes as a copy. Your unsaved changes are kept until you decide.
Review comments
Section titled “Review comments”Anyone who can open a project can leave comments at a moment in the video. Resolve and reopen comments as you go; the Review button shows how many are open. This is for review, not for editing together at the same time.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”- A project only uses photos and videos you can see: your own, shared albums and partners. Locked and hidden items are left out.
- If any item in a project becomes unavailable to you, the whole project is withheld rather than shown with gaps.
- An export made from a Locked item is Locked too, and unlocks only when every Locked item it uses is unlocked.
- A project in a shared space stays there even if its owner leaves.
Move a project to another server
Section titled “Move a project to another server”Export bundle saves a project with everything needed to open it again here or on another Frameleaf server. You can include copies of your own photos and videos; shared items are referenced, and Locked items are never included. Importing a bundle creates a new project, matching items to ones already in the library, and never changes your library.
Long jobs keep going
Section titled “Long jobs keep going”Exports, previews, restorations and bundles run as server jobs in Activity, not in your browser tab. Closing the browser doesn’t stop them, and a failed attempt never replaces a good earlier result.
