Casting to a TV
The Frameleaf web app can cast photos and videos to Google Cast devices, such as a Chromecast or a Nest Hub. Casting is experimental, works from the web app only, and is off by default.
Why it’s off by default
Section titled “Why it’s off by default”To cast, the web app has to load Google’s Cast scripts from Google’s servers every time the page opens. Some people would rather their photo app didn’t contact Google at all, so you choose whether to turn it on.
Turn it on
Section titled “Turn it on”- Open Settings from the sidebar and go to Your preferences.
- In Features, turn on Enable Chromecast.
- Save your preferences.
The setting is per account. If your administrator has turned casting off for your account, it says Turned off by your administrator.
Cast a photo or video
Section titled “Cast a photo or video”Open a photo or video in the viewer and choose the cast button, then pick your device. The cast button only appears when a compatible device is available.
What your server needs
Section titled “What your server needs”Casting has some requirements that a home server doesn’t always meet:
- HTTPS. You must open Frameleaf over an HTTPS address, or the cast menu doesn’t appear.
- A public HTTPS address. Your server must be reachable over HTTPS from the internet, and its DNS name must resolve through Google’s public DNS servers (
8.8.8.8and8.8.4.4). - Compatible videos. Videos must be in a format Google Cast devices can play.
