Tags
Tags let you label photos and videos your own way. Tags can be nested inside other tags, so you can build a tree that suits your library, such as Hobbies/Hiking or Family/Holidays/Christmas.
Frameleaf reads tags you’ve already added in other apps, from the XMP TagsList and IPTC Keywords fields. Any tag changes you make in Frameleaf are written back to a sidecar file next to the photo, so other apps can see them too.

- Under Library status, Untagged finds photos with no tags, and Has tags can be set to Yes or No.
Import tags from an existing library
Section titled “Import tags from an existing library”If your photos already had tags when you uploaded them, an administrator can rerun the metadata extraction job for all photos to read them in.
Suggested tags
Section titled “Suggested tags”Frameleaf can tag photos with what smart search sees in them, such as beach, forest, dog or cake. It compares each photo with a built-in list of about 300 everyday labels covering scenes, objects, animals, food, activities, transport and weather, and adds the closest matches.
Suggested tags are nested under an auto tag, as auto/beach, auto/dog and so on. That keeps them apart from your own tags: you can browse them together, filter them out, or remove the auto tag to clear them all. Tags you added yourself are never changed.
Suggested tags are added when a photo is processed for smart search.
Tags from AI descriptions
Section titled “Tags from AI descriptions”When your administrator turns on AI descriptions, Frameleaf also adds tags for what it sees in each photo. They’re ordinary, searchable tags, always lowercase and without duplicates. They also decide which built-in smart albums a photo goes into. An administrator can clear the generated tags from a photo without deleting the tags themselves.
For administrators
Section titled “For administrators”Suggested tags are set in Administration, then Settings, then Machine Learning Settings, then Search models & suggested tags:
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Suggest tags with the search model | Adds suggested tags using the smart search model | On |
| Minimum tag similarity | How close a photo must be to a label for the tag to be added, from 0 to 1. Higher means fewer, closer matches. | 0.25 |
| Maximum suggested tags per asset | The most suggested tags one photo can get, from 1 to 20 | 6 |
Suggested tags need smart search to be on. To add them to photos that were processed before, run Smart Search, then All, from Administration, then Jobs. Try a setting on part of your library before you process all of it.
